HCS CEO manages provincial Welding Training Review and Consultation
For the Resource Training Organization, HCS will conduct a provincial review of the BC Welder industry training program, including facilitating a province-wide stakeholder consultation process.
HCS team researches and develops better learner assessment project for Aboriginal learners
For the Indigenous Adult and Higher Education Association, an HCS team will research, consult on and develop enhanced learner assessment tools for Aboriginal post-secondary learners.
HCS develops provincial occupational standards for Wind Turbine Technician
For the Resource Training Organization, HCS will develop and have validated occupational standards for a new Wind Turbine Technician certified occupation and training program, including development of a proposal to the Industry Training Authority submission.
HCS helps Regional District of Mount Waddington develop North Island Workforce Strategy
For the Regional District of Mount Waddington, HCS will research, consult on and develop a regional Coordinated Workforce Strategy in the north island region of Vancouver Island.
HCS completes labour market initiative for Sto:lo Tribal Council
For the Sto:lo Tribal Council, HCS will plan and conduct labour market research and develop a long-term labour market strategy for the Sto:lo Tribal Council and its eight Band communities in the upper Fraser Valley region.
HCS CEO chairs Film and New Media Committee
CEO Kerry Jothen was selected by BC film and new media industry representatives to chair a new BC Screen-Based Media Industry HR Committee. The Committee was created by BC Film and industry employers and unions, and is funded by the BC Ministry of Housing and Social Development. The Committee will oversee the development and implementation of a long-term human resource strategy.

HCS assists BC mining industry to review need for credentialed occupations
CEO Kerry Jothen and associate D. Adams Management Services were selected by the BC Mineral Exploration and Mining Industry Labour Shortages Task Force to conduct an environmental scan of the industry support and need for new credentialed occupations and training programs.
HCS advises Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development
CEO Kerry Jothen has been retained by the Ministry to advice senior staff on implementation of and strategic priorities for the Labour Market Agreement programs and on Aboriginal training for employment strategies.
HCS CEO retained by Business Council to author Workforce report
Kerry Jothen was invited by the Business Council of BC, as part of its Opportunity 2020 initiative, to author a report on “Achieving a High-Skilled, High-Performance Workforce”. The report will be completed in November 2008 and will be part of a series of papers commissioned by the Business Council as part of the initiative.
HCS CEO chairs new shipbuilding and repair industry committee
Kerry Jothen was recently appointed Chair of the BC Shipbuilding and Repair Industry Human Resources Committee. This industry committee will oversee labour market and training needs research and the development of revised and/or new shipbuilding and repair training programs.
HCS CEO chairs new Vancouver Island tourism committee
Go2, UNITE HERE Local 40, and Service Canada have combined to establish a committee to develop a Vancouver Island tourism human resource strategy as well as oversee labour market needs research for the Vancouver Island, Thompson/Okanagan and Vancouver Coast/Mountain (excluding Sea to Sky) regions. Kerry Jothen was recently appointed Chair of this committee.
HCS CEO retained by Coastal First Nations to develop training business plan
Kerry Jothen was recently hired by Coastal First Nations (The Turning Point Initiative) to develop a strategic business plan for a new CFN virtual training initiative and individual training plans. It is expected that the strategy will be implemented in 2009.
HCS CEO hired by UVic to work on Aboriginal transition research project
Kerry Jothen was hired by the University of Victoria’s Office of Indigenous Affairs to manage a major research project on the transition of Aboriginal post-secondary students from First Nations institutes to public post-secondary institutes. The research will be completed by early 2009 after which a pilot project or projects will be implemented to test the best practice findings.
