President and CEO, Human Capital Strategies™ HCS' mission is to help organizations maximize their investment in people. HCS provides strategic planning, policy, human resource development (HRD), labour market and education research and development, and project management services to businesses, industries, governments, Aboriginal organizations, societies, and other private, voluntary and public organizations. Its principal, Kerry Jothen, has over 32 years experience in planning, developing and implementing strategic and operational plans, project management, labour market research and program development. He has a reputation for getting the job done and building effective working relationships among diverse stakeholder groups within complex contexts. HCS has successfully completed over 180 human resource, training, and planning projects for industry and other clients over the last 8 years. Most recently, he has played a key role in the development of a major workforce strategy for the North Island region of the province. Kerry has also recently completed several projects for the Resource Training Organization, the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development, and the BC Mineral Exploration and Mining Industry Labour Shortages Task Force. Other industry clients have included go2, the BC Wall and Ceiling Association, the Glazing Contractors Association of BC, the BC Road Building and Heavy Construction Association, the Residential Construction Industry Training Organization and the Canadian Homebuilders Association of BC. HCS' clients also include other government agencies, post-secondary institutions, and multi-cultural and persons with disabilities organizations. Kerry has also completed several Aboriginal-related projects for clients such as Coastal First Nations, Wilp Wilxo'oskwhl Nisga'a Institute, Squamish First Nations, A.C.C.E.S.S., Sto:lo Tribal Council, the First Nations Education Steering Committee, BC Aboriginal Post-Secondary Education and Training Partners, and the Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association, University of Victoria Office of Indigenous Affairs. Kerry is a co-chair of the Vancouver Board of Trade’s Education and Skills Task Force, and chair of the BC Screen-Based Media Industry HR Committee. He also recently completed chair roles for the Architectural Sheet Metal Industrial Adjustment Committee and the BC Shipbuilding and Repair Industry HR Committee. He has chaired several other industry committees in tourism, trucking, manufacturing, resources, and oil and gas. Kerry was chair of the 2010 Human Resources Planning Committee, created to develop strategies to maximize 2010-related employment and skills opportunities. Kerry provides commentary on important labour market policy issues and has had articles published in numerous magazines, books and newspapers. He has facilitated or moderated several workshops, forums and planning sessions, and made over 150 presentations to various audiences on labour market trends, training issues, career awareness and promotion, and other topics. Before HCS, Kerry was CEO of the Industry Training and Apprenticeship Commission. Kerry earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from SFU and a Master of Arts in Adult Education from UBC.
